Citizen Science Initiative
The citizen science initiative Sensafety intends to uncover the general feeling of safety in a city and to make it accessible to everyone in the spirit of transparency.
Download the Sensafety App and let us know if you currently feel safe at your location and explore how safe your location or neighborhood is perceived by others.
Report us via the Sensafety App whether you currently feel safe or unsafe at your location.
We process the ratings of all users and compute the generally perceived and location-specific sense of safety.
Experience the results immediately on an interactive map, with augmented reality or by utilizing a virtual compass.
Citizens use the Sensafety App to rate whether they feel safe or unsafe at their current location in public space. At some places, citizens are also asked to select the reason for their personal assessment from a list of location-specific factors. All ratings are anonymized, processed and the location-specific and commonly perceived safety being visualized simply and intuitively in the Sensafety App and on the website.
If you are interested, join our initiative! Download the App and start to contribute as a citizen scientist of your neighborhood.
Is it just me, feeling unsafe in the park? Sensafety gives citizens the opportunity to compare their personal feeling of safety in public space with the ones perceived by others. Visitors are able to find out how the safety situation is currently assessed at places they are about to visit. Urban researchers and planners are capable to identify anxiety spaces, uncover the causes and measure the impact of urban changes on the perceived safety. Indeed, the benefits of the data collected by Sensafety for society and research are immense and multifaceted.
Sensafety's interactive map shows the average perceived sense of safety at all locations for which at least one rating was submitted.
Sensafety's augmented reality view allows the user to exmine the average perceived sense of safety by using the mobile's built-in camera.
Sensafety's compas view allows the user to exmine the average perceived sense of safety using a virtual compass.
Since the perceived sense of safety depends upon the light conditions, users are able to rate twice a day: at daytime and nighttime.
Users are able to view and browse the complete history of location-specific ratings they have submitted so far.
